Eco

- Afasta-te! - Exclamou o jovem, recuando. - Prefiro morrer a te deixar possuir-me!
- Possuir-me - disse Eco.

The boy Felipe

I heard this history in one CD of Father Airton Freire, from Fundação Terra. It’s one of the gifts that I always receive together with the bills that we use to do donations for this foundation. The track name is exactly that, “Felipe”.

Felipe

And so happened that in the end of June, was, myself, standing around 15Km from Arcoverde, Felipe came.
- It wasn't possible that kid had arrived here! - That was my first thought.
The place has nothing. No car was arrived. It was around the ninth hour, 15 o'clock. The time when there's beginning the mercy asking, in the time of our Lord. He had his feet bleeding and scared eyes. A children with a weak body, figured by the hungry. He was using only a red color shorts.
My biggest concern was that Felipe was only seven years old. I asked him:
- Felipe, how did you get here?
- On feet...
- Who came with you?
- I came Alone...
- What time did you get out from your home?
- Very early... It was still dark.
- Did you already eat today?
- No. Nothing...
- What did you come to do here?
- I came only to be near you...
- "Estrupiado"?
- Yeap...

"Estrupiado" is a word used in the Sertão of Pernambuco (desert region from state of Pernambuco) that means that, for had walked so much, you’re so hurt that you can't walk anymore.
I put Felipe on my arms. The blood footprints were in the floor. I shed water, vinegar and salt on his feet and yet he didn't cry.
Once he had fed, we covered the floor with a towel and he, who could no longer walk, stood silent, watching. He looked at me with eyes wide opened, as if waiting to be reproached.
I got closer to him. And looking right into his eyes I told him:
- Felipe, I, your Father, love you.
He, after heard me say that three times, collapsed in tears as he was feeling a great relief or pain. He which didn't cry even in his strength limit, couldn't hold himself there. After walking kilometers, Felipe received as reward the embrace of the Father. And from Himself heard the confession "I love you.". After bleeding, could not hold on himself and cried.
What didn't make he cry by bleeding his feet, made he cry inside his heart. Son trust. Paternal welcome. Felipe, almost seven years old. Felipe, from today and on, I will watch over you!

Felipe

Eu lhe perguntei:
  • Felipe, como tu chegaste aqui?
  • A pés…
  • Com quem vieste?
  • Só…
  • A que horas saiste de lá?
  • Cedinho… Ainda com o escuro.
  • Já comeste hoje?
  • Não. Nadinha…
  • O que vieste fazer aqui?
  • Vim só para ficar perto do senhor…
  • Estrupiado?

Aproximei-me dele.

The Cage

"My land has palm trees / Where the thrush sings...". But the thrush sings no more. All that left was an empty cage. The little jar with some water dirty with few grains of
birdseed and little feathers on the surface. A piece of wet bread left at the cage's corner. The still perch and the silence surrounding this scene. A so big empty as the empty
left in this cage.

We use to sing together. I started and you followed me.

Now I keep imagining if one day you ever knew how is the feeling of a long flight. To don't have space limitations imposed by those small bars. How we're unfair and selfish
persons to private a being, which has in its nature to be free, to know this freedom. Now I know that you're free. Not how I expected, but I hope you're happy wherever you are.
Singing another songs. I hope you remember me...

Gaiola

alpiste e pequenas penas boiando.

Cantando outras
canções. Espero que lembrando de mim...

The Last Crusade

The Last Crusade by Guzma
The Last Crusade, a photo by Guzma on Flickr.

x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

A new crusade is about to begin. Perhaps my last and final. With my hands tied I feel the wind blowing in my face. There wasn't a chill wind. There was a hot wind as if it had come straight from the open doors of hell. The way is now shrouded in mystery. Far from being understood. Maybe it's better not really understand it. Some parts just do not fit... As do I. A lost peace waiting to find some place in this pluzze to fit in. An unkown...
Far from my home, my city, the challenge that came on my path brings with it a pile of bodies just waiting me to join them. The silence shrouds the city like a terrible ritual. Distant cries of mothers burying their sons and daughters. Murdered, mutilated, raped... A mosaic of light and crimes. Lost promises of justice for them.
And against all dangers and enemies only one thing brings me peace is still be able to look at the stars in the night sky with no clouds. That's my only consolation. Everything will be done, safe or not, good or bad is all quiet at the end. Because there in the stars all is calm... It's, after all, where will all the innocents go...

Sempre ao seu lado...

Sempre ao seu lado... by Guzma
Sempre ao seu lado..., a photo by Guzma on Flickr.

Anatomically the apes are the animals that most resembles to the man. The genetic difference between our friends apes and we humans is about 1.5% only. But I always believed that dogs tend to have a soul closer to ours. O.o Ohhh Call me a heretic, you will, after all, animals have no soul! As I told I prefer to believe that they have, after all some of their behaviors show strongly this. Hillary had a couple of Labradors,
Peggy and Ruppe. There weren't brothers. Ruppe had almost the same age as Peggy. If not, about three months of difference. Peggy had been found abandoned under a bridge near her house, next to the margin of the frozen river. Shivered. Weak from hunger and thirst, Hillary took Peggy in her arms and carried her home where she took care of the little dying puppy.
They grew up together and during that time were nurturing a kind of relationship that once I knew only in humans (and perhaps speaking, dolphins). That was love. Ruppe showed no interest in other dogs in the region, contesting paradigm of the "alpha male instinct" - The purpose of the male of every species is only procreation. I always thought it a good excuse to stay with more than one woman... But that dog has proved to me that when you have an unconditional love, even the most primitive instincts can't twist you. Sadly Peggy was born with (or developed) a problem that prevented her to have puppies and in the future would bring her a cancer that would lead to her death.
In her last days I've been around and I could see that these animals are not just instincts. These creatures feel much beyond that. They feel sad, happy, love, hate, they have feelings that go beyond instincts. Feelings that leads to a soul. Ruppe has spent almost a whole month next to his lover, trying to somehow lessen the Peggy’s pain by the tumor that was destroying her body. And be sure that your dog cries. Yes, he cry with tears. Many times I saw tears in the black eyes of Ruppe. Many times I caressed Peggy and somehow I could feel the pain of Ruppe.
When Peggy died we made a little grave in the Hillary's backyard. Ruppe is still alive. I believe that all the affection he gets from Hillary has a big contribution to this, despite the emptiness that I know that took his life. She says that even today he spends all afternoon next to the site where his loved one is lying. I believe that because the fact that there are several reports of dogs that remain in the place where their owners were buried throughout the rest of their lives. This is not instinct. This attitude isn't from an irrational being without a soul. That emotion is pure and simple. Something that only a soul can create. Hillary told me will be by Peggy's side that, with much pain, he will be buried someday. This reminds me the movie "Hachiko: A Dog's Story"...
