Vidas e Navios...

Frágil e minúsculo no meio do mar. Tentando chegar a algum porto.

Among many things I like to compare life as a ship. A large ship or even a little boat trying to sail somewhere. A ship that navigates many times with no direction, no maps or compass. Lost in the middle of a fog, avoiding rocks to don't crash. Sailing on big waves trying not to wreck. I imagine myself navigating a little boat, as I lead my life like this. Alone into a little boat. Fragile and tiny in the middle of the ocean. Trying to reach some shore. A place to dock in and call it home. I guess, anyway, more and more I'll never find that place. I'll just go wreck on the ocean, shattered against the rocks or swallowed by the waves. Just to rest in somewhere deep and cold. Never to be found again. I wish I could conduct this boat as on a simulator... And after I wreck would just push the "Play Again" button...

Mimos... Carícias... Cuidados... Guardei-te onde estive e te levei onde fui. Esperando um dia voltar a te ver.
Desço o rio... Orgulho de Hull... Não te encontro. Não te vejo. Não te sinto... As águas correm vazias. Cinza... Vida guarnecida por lembranças que nem tive. Feridas que tenho que nunca vão curar.

"E vós, Tágides minhas, pois criado
Tendes em mim um novo engenho ardente,
Se sempre em verso humilde celebrado
Foi de mim vosso rio alegremente,
Dai-me agora um som alto e sublimado,
Um estilo grandíloco e corrente,
Por que de vossas águas Febo ordene
Que não tenham inveja às de Hipocrene"

So there I come back to the Almada Mines, for my Tagide*. That one which came to me through the Gates of Rodão. Slept at Barquinha and at the Castle of Almourol to finally find me at the Palha Sea, where the North Cala and the Barcas Cala meets. There, at the same dock where I saw you playing so happy above the little waves.
It was you my Tagide, which inside me created an ardor desire, eloquent. You, a frequent presence into my veins. You which the name I scream loudly and sublime, because no verse is worth to exalt you. Keepsake... Caresses ... Care... I kept you where I've been and where I gone. Wait for one day to see you again.
I go down the river... Pride of Hull... Never find you. Never see you. Never feel you... The river is running empty. No warm. It's cold. There's no joy where the happiness used to play before above the little waves. Grey... Life fulfilled of memories that I never had. Bruises that will never heal.

"And thy, Tagides of mine, created
You had inside me a new burning engine,
If always on humble verses celebrated
Was in me thy river happiness,
Give me now a loud and sublime sound,
A great eloquent and running style,
Because from your waters Phoebe command
To don't be envy to the Hippocrene."

Cesse as Conquistas!

Conquisto a felicidade pura e simples.

Get over the Greeks, Vikings and Trojans
And their great navigation.
Silence Alexander, Trajan and Attila
And their conquest of fame and victories.
Disappear Neptune, Mart and Zeus
And the obey of men to they.
Get over all that, because nothing more matters.

I look to the expanse of the nothing.
Do you think I'm looking you?
All that I look is the empty.
You, her, him...
Silence, because doesn't matter.

I bring with me greater conquest never had from the men.
I conquest the happiness, pure and simple.
Joy without any reason.
Be happy just because you fell like this.
Happiness which doesn't wait deception or end.

I didn't navigate, discovery neither conquest new worlds.
I haven't victories or eternal honors.
I have nobody to serve or obey me.
I didn't discovery the love of a beauty nymph.
I just saw a bird, felt the breeze and touched the water.

Lusíadas - Verso II Canto I

“E também as memórias gloriosas
Daqueles Reis que foram dilatando
A Fé, o Império, e as terras viciosas
De África e de Ásia andaram devastando,
E aqueles que por obras valerosas
Se vão da lei da Morte libertando:
Cantando espalharei por toda a parte
Se a tanto me ajudar o engenho e arte.”

“And also the glorious memories
From those Kings, that gone expanding
The Faith, the Emperor, and the pagan lands
From Africa and from Asia they went devastating,
And those that by valuable work
Are getting free from the Death law:
Singing I’ll spread everywhere
If as much help me the skill and art.”

Great history conquests are singed on big epopees. Happy were those people that had their history related on poetry, books or texts that have been passing by through generations, immortalizing their conquests. Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, the Bible itself and many others that draw history of kings, imperators and their glories.
Instead of had been wrote many years before the Crusades, Camões still references it at the second verse of the first Sing of Lusíadas. The Faith and the Emperor at pagan and impure lands, more specifically the Muslim world, of King Salazar, when the crusades fought to take back Jerusalem, the Holy Land. Those whose fight on the Crusades, valuable work, would get the forgiven of their sins. The freedom from the Death.

Novas Terras... Novos Reinos

As armas e os Barões assinalados
Que da Ocidental praia Lusitana
Por mares nunca de antes navegados
Passaram ainda além da Taprobana,
Em perigos e guerras esforçados
Mais do que prometia a força humana,
E entre gente remota edificaram
Novo Reino, que tanto sublimaram;

Taprobana é a atual Sri-Lanka. Mares nunca antes navegados... Faz-me falta a descoberta de novos mares, novas terras.

"The arms and the Barons signed
That from the Occidental Lusitanian shore
By seas never sealed before
Passed beyond Taprobana,
In dangerous and wars striving
More than would promise the human strength,
And among remote people they built
New Kingdom, which they so much desired;"
(Lusíadas - Sing I,I, Camões)

There are no more places in the World to be discovered. There is no more pioneering or adventurous sealing into unknown seas to unknown worlds. All maps are completed.
The first verse from Lusíadas tells us about the Portuguese armada departed, from the Restelo beach, on the Portugal littoral near the Tejo River. By seas never sealed before, beyond Taprobana. Taprobana is the actual knew Sri-Lank Island. The European ships used to make their route only until the India, never going beyond it. Seas never sealed before... I miss the feeling of discovering new seas, new lands. I miss the pioneering that gone beyond the human strength.
The goal, that time, was just to expand the kingdom, conquer new lands and treasures. For me would be enough the glory of discovery. Neither that was just for a little peace of land.

Dinamene...

Quando de minhas mágoas a comprida

Quando de minhas mágoas a comprida
Maginação os olhos me adormece,
Em sonhos aquela alma me aparece
Que pera mim foi sonho nesta vida.

Lá numa saudade, onde estendida
A vista pelo campo desfalece,
Corro para ela; e ela então parece
Que mais de mim se alonga, compelida.

Brado: "Não me fujais, sombra benina!"

Torna a fugir-me: e eu, gritando: "Dina..."

When the postponement of my sorrows

When the postponement of my sorrows
On magination the eyes sleep,
On dreams that soul appears for me
And for me was a dream in this life.

There in the missing, where outspreaded
The view on the field dies,
I run to her; And so she seems
That from me she's going far, forced.

I cry: "Don't run from me, good shadow!"
She, the eyes on me with an easy shame,
Like who says that can be no more,

Again she runs: And I, screaming: "Dina..."
Before to say "mene", I wake up and see
That neither a little mistake I can take.
(Luís de Camões - One of the sonets wrote to his beloved Dinamene, who died on a shipwrecked while Camões was saving The Lusíadas)

Desculpas...

Esbarro propositalmente. Derrubo meus livros no chão. Causo o transtorno.
- Me desculpe - falo.

I bump into you on purpose. Drop my books and notes on the floor. I do the disruption. All this just to an opportunity to talk to you. Even if just a "I'm sorry". Something to give hope of a beginning of some conversation. Something just to hear your voice, or stay few more seconds near you. I do it because I don't know how to speak or approach. I don't know how to speak something cool. I'm not cool as the others.
I pick my stuffs speared on the floor, clumsy. You come down to help me. I wish to stay there, picking my stuffs for hours. We take the same paper sheet, where between some verses, your name remains there. We stand up together and you give me all the things that you got to pick.
- I'm sorry - I tell you.
- Asshole - You answer and keep on your way.
I take my way feeling more miserable than before and less hopeful than ever.
